Transat and Canjet | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

I read this news with utter dismay – Transat has chosen Canjet and its agreement with Westjet will not be formally renewed:

My travel agent told me Transat didn’t have much choice, the company had to find another sub-contractor because Westjet has just announced an alliance with Air France and KLM.

I, for one, will choose another tour operator in order to avoid Canjet (and Skyservice, for that matter) if I can help it at all, even if it means paying a few bucks more for my vacation.

I have no experience with CanJet, but I also haven’t read much flattering about them.
I’ve never had a bad experience with Skyservice, though I agree they are not my fist choice.

CanJet was just as good has AT, AC, Skyservice and Canadian Pacific ( I’m I dating my self LOL)
My wife said Ward Air was the best

AnneM- I agree with you, read the thread "Melia Cayo Santa Maria – from Halifax" and see what CANJET is doing….Cheers

Cannot agree with you more!!! Transat and Canjet are a nightmare …..will never use them again!!!

We are going to La Salina Varadero in April via AT, how and where do I go to keep up to date on the flight times in case they make any changes. Just my luck to miss them. LOL
Many Thanks

We flew CanJet out of Halifax in January and had no problems. Our flight times had been changed a week or so in advanced (a day or 2 after we booked) but it was actually for a better time frame i.e. morning instead of night. The flight was re-routed to stop in Cancun on the way but this was possibly more to do with Air Transat’s bookings than CanJet themselves. In addition, I flew Skyservice to Holguin in October (out of Toronto) and had no complains.

It all depends on what you are looking for in your flight, I have long legs and do not expect to be overly comfortable on any flight. It is only 4 hours and as long as the plane takes-off and lands (relatively on time), it’s all good.

I have booked with Transat twice and both times ended up flying with skyservice Yuck! That would be my worst nightmare! We flew with Skyservice exactly once, never again! We’ve flown with Air Transat ever since and never had any complaints, but then my expectations aren’t that high when it comes to any Charter ::). AT did increase the seat pitch on all their planes this past summer so it does give you a wee bit more leg room. We’ve spoiled ourselves for our upcoming trip though and booked Club Class both ways. ;D We did CC outbound last year for the luggage allowance and it was awesome.

If AT’s flights out of Vancouver are taken over by Canjet, they are as bad as some of the reports I’ve read and they don’t offer something like Club Class we’ll be trying out Sunwing

Ward Air was absolutely the very best! Royal Dalton china, eggs benedict, wine, in the regular class! Tip: when booking with Transat, try to upgrade to club class, if you can’t it’s very likely you will be flying Canjet.

fly CC, never, I would up grade my resort for the money spent for CC

fly CC, never, I would up grade my resort for the money spent for CC Yes, I used to say that too…..until I got a freebee upgrade to Club a few years ago. Having "seen Paris" it was sure hard to go back to sitting in coach. I’ll admit to paying for the upgrade quite a few times since then! BTW, I’ve flown with Canjet a couple of times. I liked them. Better than Skyservice or coach with Transat IMHO.
the worst has to be the difference in weight for checked luggage westjet allows a lot more than canjet and canjet charges 20 dollars per kg over that could add up fast i sent a emal to Ar transat to ask if they can get canjet to up there luggage and i encourage others to do the same here is the email address

I highly doubt Air Transat will ask Canjet to change their luggage allowance, as Canjet and Air Transat have the exact same luggage allowance.

We flew with Canjet to Holguin over New Years and had no problems (other than a fog delay)

fly CC, never, I would up grade my resort for the money spent for CC I guess it depends how you view the plane ride. If you see it as just a means to get from here to Cuba, then Club Class (or an equivalent) won’t matter much to you (nor would travelling with Canjet or with Squish-service!).

Personally, when I travelled alone, I always paid for whatever upgrade was available, because I consider the flight part of my vacation experience, and I want it to be as pleasant as possible. CC was sold out for my next trip, so I reserved bulkhead seats, to have a bit more room. Heck, I also use the VIP lounge both here and in Cuba, because even my time at the airport is part of the vacation for me!

i totally agree AnneM i use Club Class and the VIP room as i consider it all part of my vacation and its part of the hole experience of being totally relaxed

My travel agent told me Transat didn’t have much choice, the company had to find another sub-contractor because Westjet has just announced an alliance with Air France and KLM. Not sure that the Westjet alliance with KLM and Air France is the only reason. This year, Westjet started their own vacation division, just as Air Canada has Air Canada Vacations as a subsidiary. Westjet offers all-inclusive packages to Mexico and Vegas this season, but I’m sure they’d like to expand those offerings. Any expansion would require more of Westjet’s aircraft to be available which is why I suspect they dropped their contract with Air Transat.Personally, I love Westjet and they have become my domestic air carrier of choice. Westjet is a western Canadian airline based in Calgary. I always found it bizarre that people in central Canada and the Maritimes could fly Westjet to Cuba, but we here in Vancouver could not. Vancouver vacationers were only able to fly Air Canada (via Toronto or Montreal), Sunwing, Skyservice or Air Transat. I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing Canjet and only got to try Sunwing this year as they are also new to the Vancouver market. We had no issues with Sunwing and found them better than Skyservice (who offer absurd flight times to Cuba from Vancouver).

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Westjet Vacations will expand their service from Vancouver to include Cuba for next season.

Having flown with both let me just say that I PREFER transat… As far as Im concerned my vacation starts as soon as I get on that plane and when you have unpleastent flight attendents to deal with and a uncomfy seat I am not a happy camper… I WISH westjet was doing cuba flights from SWO this year but they are not… Ive used them for all but one domestic flight in recent years and after a HORRIBLE experience with Air Canada I will continue to use westjet…But this is just my biased opinion lol I did my co-op for westjet in school!:P

8-)Probably totally unrelated, but we flew cubana out of T O last year. The leg room wasn’t huge, but the service was great. We consider the plane ride as part of the holiday party because we travel with a group. We are so busy having fun with our friends that it makes the trip go by a little faster.

westjet has had it vacation division for quite some time now but do not offer Cuba

westjet has had it vacation division for quite some time now but do not offer Cuba To my knowledge, Westjet’s vacation division was started in 2007.Compared to Signature, Sunquest, Conquest, and others who have been in business for 20 years and even longer, WestJet Vacations is relatively new.

Sure hope they start to offer vacation packages to Cuba from Vancouver soon!

WestjetVacations "just" (in Nov ’08) opened Cancun up as one of their vacation destinations (and boy, did we get a fabulous deal then!), so perhaps they will be looking into Cuba in the near future! One can only hope.
