Varadero Maps of Hotel locations – Cuba – Debbie's Carribean Reviews Forums

Note: The attachment below no longer works. Please refer to my later posts on this thread for the most up to date version of the map.

Cubajunky used to have this map on their site, but it was well out of date last time I was able to find it. I had downloaded a copy of it and started working at updating it. I liked it because it was clear, and I was able to reformat it so that it could be printed out on a single page, with the west end of the peninsula at the top of the page and the east end at the bottom. It still isn’t fully up to date, because I haven’t had the chance to work on it for a while.
With the ability to add attachments to a post, I thought I would try posting it here. If this works, I will try to do some more updating, and post a better version when I have it ready.

Interesting to see the changes

Thanks CubaJack, its a great reference. I find that most of the maps of Varadero are hard to read, out of date, or are not easy to seach the whole area.

This is the best one I had found up to now.

Love the Wiki format… Just wondering how accurate the Wiki map is? Who Updates it with new hotel names etc. How recent is the satelite shot??? I checked Club Bucanero in Santiago de Cuba and it’s still showing as “intact” meanwhile Huricane Sandy completely destroyed it.

http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=19.940261&lon=-75.691155&z=16&m=b&v=2

And The Cayo Santa Maria map is missing a few hotels

http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=22.660324&lon=-79.036782&z=16&m=b&v=2

Still a great reference map

Wiki map is based on Google Earth images, so the dates of some of the images should be as follows:

Varadero – most of the peninsula is March 4, 2011. The rest is July 30, 2010. The dividing line is roughly between Cuatro Palmas and Josone Park.

The area around Club Bucanero is from November 5, 2011.

Cayo Santa Maria is from January 5, 2011.

As to who updates the hotel names, and such, well, it is anybody that wants to sign up and add some information. It works much like the travel articles on Trip Advisor. The members do the updates, and it is up to the knowledgeable ones to make sure they stay accurate.

The map I posted is still not fully up to date. Most of the updates I have done are out near the end of the peninsula. A few of the hotels in town might need a bit of updating. I will try to get that cleaned up soon.

Thanks for that one. I don’t think it is fully up to date, but it has some better information than my original one, so it will help with some of the updates. Most of the information I have added to the map I posted has come from Google Earth and from Wikimapia so far. I have also gathered a bit of information from reading comments on travel forums, and working out where and what things are from peoples descriptions.

I hope some of what I have done will be useful.

We have had some problems with attachments since the change to the new site, so the map I posted at reply #10 doesn’t come up. I thought I would try showing it a different way. The image below isn’t full size, but if you want to get the full size version, just right click on the picture, and select “Save Image” and save it onto your computer.

I’d just like to add that if anybody sees any changes or errors in that map, please let me know, and I will get it updated. The objective is to have the most current information possible for you.

Great maps and updates…just looking at them makes me want to get back to Varadero!

I have made some updates to the map that was posted in reply #16. Here it is:

As mentioned before, if you want to get the full size image, just right click on the picture, and select “Save Image” and save it onto your computer. Then you can print out a hard copy, if you wish, to take with you on your trip.

always fun looking at the maps and changes however is there a new version out there…so many hotels are changing their names?

Admin 2015-11-25 00:25:52 UTC #23

The one you see above is the latest one that I know as @CubaJack updated not long time ago!

cubajack 2015-11-25 15:09:10 UTC #24

I last updated the map in July this year, and as far as I could find out it was pretty much current then. I’m not aware of any name changes since then, but I will do some research, and see if there are any updates needed.

cubajack 2015-11-25 23:24:10 UTC #25

I have found a few minor things. I would rather hold off posting another update for a while, but here is a list of what I have found:

The map shows Iberostar Barlovento at the west end of the peninsula, around about 10th or 11th street. I think it has been renamed Roc Barlovento.

Playa Caleta is missing. It is located next to Club Puntarena at the end of Ave. Kawama. Also Club Puntarena is no longer called Super Club Puntarenas.

Ocean Vista Azul seems to be quite new. It seems to be between Sol Palmeras and Naviti. Wikimap shows some new construction there.

I would sure appreciate it if anyone who knows of any other differences could let me know about them and I will try to keep the map as up to date as I can.

Breezes Bella costa is no longer a Breezes. It is Hotel Bella Costa now and is operated by Cubanacan.

Thanks so much for updating the map, CubaJack. It is greatly appreciated.
I think that Villa Cuba is now called Be Live Experience Varadero.

cheersterry 2015-11-26 23:25:21 UTC #28

It’s unfathomable that the Cuban Tourist Board and the resorts themselves aren’t doing simple updates on Google Maps and/or making available a proper, up-to-date PDF of the peninsula.

What in the world are their Marketing Departments doing? Oh wait… it’s Cuba… sorry, stupid question!

Cheers,
Terry

Thank you both for the information. I will go ahead and update my map. I also noticed that there is some information I have missed over the last 7 updates or so. The map still shows the Sol Sirenas Coral as two separate resorts. I will fix that also.
