I have made some updates to the map that was posted in reply #16. Here it is:

As mentioned before, if you want to get the full size image, just right click on the picture, and select “Save Image” and save it onto your computer. Then you can print out a hard copy, if you wish, to take with you on your trip.

The one you see above is the latest one that I know as @CubaJack updated not long time ago!

I last updated the map in July this year, and as far as I could find out it was pretty much current then. I’m not aware of any name changes since then, but I will do some research, and see if there are any updates needed.

I have found a few minor things. I would rather hold off posting another update for a while, but here is a list of what I have found:
The map shows Iberostar Barlovento at the west end of the peninsula, around about 10th or 11th street. I think it has been renamed Roc Barlovento.
Playa Caleta is missing. It is located next to Club Puntarena at the end of Ave. Kawama. Also Club Puntarena is no longer called Super Club Puntarenas.
Ocean Vista Azul seems to be quite new. It seems to be between Sol Palmeras and Naviti. Wikimap shows some new construction there.
I would sure appreciate it if anyone who knows of any other differences could let me know about them and I will try to keep the map as up to date as I can.

Breezes Bella costa is no longer a Breezes. It is Hotel Bella Costa now and is operated by Cubanacan.

Thanks so much for updating the map, CubaJack. It is greatly appreciated.
I think that Villa Cuba is now called Be Live Experience Varadero.

It’s unfathomable that the Cuban Tourist Board and the resorts themselves aren’t doing simple updates on Google Maps and/or making available a proper, up-to-date PDF of the peninsula.
What in the world are their Marketing Departments doing? Oh wait… it’s Cuba… sorry, stupid question!
Cheers,
Terry

Thank you both for the information. I will go ahead and update my map. I also noticed that there is some information I have missed over the last 7 updates or so. The map still shows the Sol Sirenas Coral as two separate resorts. I will fix that also.

Allegro Varadero is the site of the new Ocean Vista Azul and there is another going up beside it. So much of the terrain has changed since those maps were drawn. There are lagoons where hotels stand, the Marina complex, Libertad and with the new bridge and causeway Cayo Buba will soon become the new “far end” of the peninsula. That’s a lot of investment.
madrugada54 2015-11-27 21:46:01 UTC #31
Varadero International Hotel and Cabaret Continental are in a stage of demolition. No confirmed info yet of what the new resort to be built on that site will be called, but it will probably take a few years before it is built.
Sandals Royal Hicacos is now Royalton Hicacos.

It’s a bit confusing, because I thought the Allegro Varadero was now called Naviti. And I thought the Ocean Vista Azul was the new one next to it on the west. Wikimap still shows Allegro Varadero, and the one next door seems to be called “Ocean Club.” Do you (or anybody else) have any more details on this?
Yes, the map shows Laguna Mangon, which has been filled in. I should update that.

I remember reading about the International. I have to find that on the map, and remove it. I don’t know if the Cabaret Continental was shown, but I will check that. I have the Royalton Hicacos already. Thanks, Mad (and everybody else) for the information. I can see where it may take a bit of time to get the updates done, but hopefully I can do that and we can publish reasonably soon.

From Ocean Vista Azul posting on their Facebook page, Oct 6, 2015.:
“The location of the hotel, is at km 11 of the Autopista Sur, between Sol Palmeras and Naviti hotel (this hotel used to be Allegro Varadero hotel). This information should help you to locate the hotel on the map”

Spunky; I think that you might have misunderstood. Ocean Vista Azul resort is between Sol Palmares and Naviti; and Naviti used to be Allegro Varadero.

Punctuation means everything. LOL

That was how I read it too. I have done a bit more digging on that one, and I think the correct interpretation is that Allegro Varadero changed to Naviti (that was my previous understanding back in July) and Ocean Vista Azul is between Sol Palmeras and Naviti. Also when I look at the Wikimap, it looks like the location of Sol Palmeras on this one is slightly off.
I will do some more edits, and try to get the updated map posted by this weekend.

Er, um, am assuming that the new Melia Marina Varadero is at the end of the line where it is marked Marina Gaviota?

I think that’s right. That is an update I missed. I’m not sure of the full history, but the old original version of the map showed the Marina Gaviota, and the Marina Melia Marina Varadero hotel was built (about two years ago, I think) adjacent to the Marina.
Thanks for that, Zendudette. I will add that to my list of updates for the next issue.
