Varadero Resort Choices | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Hi – Looking at heading to Cuba this April and looking at the following 4 resorts – all within the same price range:Sirenis La SelinaIberostar Playa AlamedaMelia Antillas Superior Club Riu Varadero Royal SectionJust going for a week of R & R. Looking for a good resort with good service and nice restaurant choices. We perfer doing a la cartes in the evenings so like resorts with more then 2 a la cartes.

Any insights would be great.

Hi SackieOf your 4, we loved the SLS in 2009 (we have not been to the other 3). I think there is more than 2 ala cartes, however, we only booked the 2 allotted and often prefer the buffet in most resorts. Great R & R place, good pools and nice beach. Our fav think, apart from the Lobby Coffee Bar, was listening to Sexteto Primavera, the band that played in the Cuban ala carte/quite pool snack bar, later at night after the main show.
As usual, you’re bound to get different answers here lol My recommendation is the Iberostar Playa Alameda (can’t go wrong with the Ibero chain either). Smaller than some of the other resorts, it has got a lot going for it. Great animation staff led by the tallest Cuban I’ve ever seen: Alexis Jimenez. Great guy, a strong believer in being available and visible all day (long days), loves to direct the beach workout sessions in the morning. Always very interested in our comments about the resort (things to change, improve upon, etc.) That’s a plus in my book. Alexander, beach barman, the sweetest guy, shy almost, but very accommodating. Works alone most days, wow, and even when there’s a lineup, he always waves or thows a smile your way. There are also 2 brothers on the beach early morning to help with the chairs. From the room staff to the restaurant staff, all were helpful, friendly and some even funny. ;DAbsolutely looooooved the live Cuban band in the lobby on a couple of nights, complete with dancers and full brass section!

We’ll be going next door to the Ibero Laguna Azul in April, but will make a point of dropping by the PA to say hi to some of these employees, that’s how NICE they were!

They are all great Resorts but I’m leaning towards Iberostar as zendudette mentioned you can’t go wrong with an Iberostar Resort. One of my favorite chains for sure!!
The Resort has amazing staff, clean and great food. Also located in a great location. Laguna Azul and Iberostar VAradero also amazing Resorts. The only thing with the Iberostar Varadero is that it will be priier then the others but Laguna Azul has been pricing very reasonable as well as the Playa Alameda. Any questions please feel free to ask

i’ve been to sirena la salina twice, i would go back there again. the iberostar sounds good.
