Ventaclub Playa Maroma – Mayan Riviera, Mexico hotels – Debbie's Caribbean Travel & Resort Reviews

April 2003

Hello, my name is Louis-Martin and I went to the VentaClub Playa Maroma on the Riviera Maya from april 12th to 19th 2003 with Tours Mont-Royal/Nouvelles-Frontières. This hotel is also available with Conquest.

Arrival: Warm welcome. On arrival, we had asked for a room near the beach (5000-6000), but since it wasn’t ready we got one near the reception (1000-2000).

Finaly, it was not a problem, all rooms being built the same way, there were no difference whatever building you were in and walking distances were not long. The front desk staff was very nice and answered in English (take note that this hotel is 90% italian).

Rooms: Large and new rooms, the hotel is only 3 years old. Tile floor, very clean, 2 queen beds or one king, mexican cable TV (so few english channels). Each one has a balcony. Bathroom in two parts (shower and toilet separated from sink), very nice, no bath. Hair dryer and refrigirator with dail water bottle.

Each building has an inner garden with lots of vegetation. The entire hotel is full of tall tropical plants so you never feel that you are with lots of people. In fact, yo don’t see the other rooms! Buildings have lots of color, and very nice architecture.

Service: Staff of the hotel (other tna animation) is mexican and speak spanish and english. Good service, fast and well done, always a smile on their faces.

Meals: The buffet restaurant has 2 theme meals per week (italian and mexican). For breakfast, lots of goodies and a delicious flan. But less fruit than at lunch and dinner! Excellent omelettes. Also, since it’s an italian hotel, theres always italian salami… miam miam…

For lunch and dinner, there’s always 2 choices of fish (good) and 2 meats (more dry but when there’s beef it’s good) and of course pasta!! always 3 kinds and risotto and pizza! All very very good! We ate them all week and never got bored! 🙂 The buffet is organized in stations so you never wait in line (except at the pasta bar 😉

There are 3 à la carte restaurants: 1 italian, 1 mexican and 1 seafood (the last one is not included). The italien was very good (ate a steak). The mexican serves yucatan dishes. We were a litlle dissapointed. Tables are for 10 persons at the mexican.

Snack-bar near the beach. Fast-food style: pizza, hot-dog, hamburger and sandwich. Ice cream and juice as you wish!

Water is filtered everywhere, except in your bathroom, so no drinking problems. .

Beach: Ah……….What to say…except it’s magnificient!! The most beutiful we have seen in the caribbean till now (10th trip). Very very long, you can walk and not see anyone in sight! Only white sand, the blue sea and trees! Besides the ventaclub, there is only a small 30 room hotel on a beach more than 3 km long!

Lots of shade, no sea-doos or motor boats, very calm, no deposit for beach towels!.

When there’s no wind, you can feel like in Thaiti! 🙂

Warm sea for long baths…

Pool: Very nice but haven’t used it…I was always in the sea…lots of shade if you like there too!

Animation: 99% italian so it’s difficult to participate in the evening shows. But for activities (kayak, windsurfing, sports) the animation staff can speak to us in english. Always with a smile.

Tours: Expensive because in US dollars. Wanted to go to Tulum in local buses but the hotel is VERY far from the main road, so it’s difficult to have acess to public transport. There is the only negative thing about the hotel…

So to resume, excellent trip!!! We recommend this hotel to anyone who is a lover of the caribbean! But you must not be a animation fan (in italian) or want to meet lots of canadians. If you love beaches and sea, go there!!
