Weather in December? | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

we are looking for a December vacation destination and are shying away from Cuba because last time we went in January it was too cool to swim in the ocean and was very windy at that time of year , is that generally true or are parts of the island that are warmer like the southern part for example?

We enjoy Cayo Largo in the Caribbean. The water is much warmer and the north winds are blocked by the beach banking so it’s nice and warm on the beach, even on a day that would be cooler above the banking.

If you can deal with less amenities and are happy with a three star resort, check out the Santiago area. Almost guaranteed warm weather and sunshine! You could look at Carisol Los Corales, or Brisas Sierra Mar or Los Galeones. Another option would be Marea del Portilla (check under Manzanillo) The beaches aren’t the pristine white sand of the Atlantic side, but the trade off for great weather is worth it, IMO. And the snorkelling is first rate as well.

What kind of weather are you folks talking about for the north in say December and January? I looked online and it says highs 27, lows 17 and average 22 for January.

You can get nice warm weather, or you can encounter a cold front. If it’s cold in south Florida it will likely be cold on Cuba’s Atlantic coast, particularly the further north you are. I have seen single digits in December, although that is not the norm.

Been to Holguin area twice in Nov and Dec and both times wonnnnnnnderful weather, some clouds, morning or evening 5-min showers only.
With Dame Nature, you never know, but at least you’re on vacation away from Da Frozen Nort! ????
