which malaria tablets for children? | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

hi! we are going to dominican republic soonm and our two yr old is coming – can anyone reccomend which malaria tabs to give for this age group?!

That’s really something you should ask your doctor or family practioner. Personally, I’m not sure I would give this treatment to a small child without some professional guidance.

I agree – but try to go to a travel clinic (most MDs know nothing about malaria…). You have two issues here – the age of your kids and where (and when) you are going, as the type of malaria and its resistance to drugs can change alot. A usual drug that works for younger kids is chloroquine mixed with paludine (it has a brand name – nivaquine??) but there are other choices out there too. And you will generally need a prescription to get those drugs.
