Another successful Dubois Charitable Foundation Pack today | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Despite the rain # 74 Pack got completed and is now en-route to Cuba.This container will again go to various locations in the province of Mayabeque, such as, Batabano, San Jose, Nueva Paz, Melena, Guines and more, with materials for hospitals, policlinics, maternal facilities, children’s sports, the rural university, as well as for the elderly, the sick the disabled, orphans and social cases.The Dubois Charitable Foundation has developed a very good working relationship with the provincial and municipal governments in the province of Mayabeque, and as a result, we are making a marked difference in the lives of thousands of residents of that province. During John’s last visit there in June, he was reminded several times how thankful officials and and residents were with the donations received and indicated that the materials received filled a very serious need with medical patients, the disabled, expectant mothers children, and the very poor in many parts of the province.

Aside the rain all was great. there was a car …..yes a car, medical examining tables, loads of clothing, 3 sewing machines, 2 TV’s hospital beds and curtains……..and so, so much more!

The paperwork for the car was an issue but it was granted ONLY because the car is going to the people that do all the ground work in Cuba. However it is STILL causing a huge problem in dealing with the ship line taking the container as it now sits and waits for more paperwork !!

Congratulations again for a job well done. Your dedication and the work of DCF is remarkable.

Somehow I get the feeling that the car is specifically earmarked for someone.

I strongly believe these threads should be in the "Help the Cuban People" section of the forum as they are not travel related.

It was discussed on the moderators board and decided to keep the post here for the weekend.

There are a lot of people who do a lot of work to make this happen. John & Marian put in countless hours, as do their Wednesday group…… Some of us who are not local to DCF come in for the pack event or make donations……. In respect for this it was placed on the main page for a few days to celebrate the fact a lot of people have come together to help a lot of Cubans, …most of us will never meet but will benefit from efforts selfless caring hours of the people involved with The Dubois Charitable Foundation.

I think that the very few times that a thread about DCF finds it’s way to this board it serves a travel related message that there are options to those that do not want to take donations or gifts to Cuba on their vacations .
Not ALL members know how to navigate the site .

As for the car of course it is for someone specific ya think it’s just going to be used by everybody ? Anyone that thinks that DCF is anything other than 100% really needs to do a little research or perhaps go out and see for them selves !The actual loading of the container is a very small percentage of all the volunteer work that is needed to accomplish the acquisition , transport and storage of all the goods to fill each container is truly amazing.There was actually no post hunting for volunteers to help after all just a notice of ANOTHER container loaded.Lenny

No need to be rude or snotty Lenny!There are many members who would love to help with a container packing but can’t because of where we live. We send our cheques because we know that every $$ helps.A few years ago, I actually arranged to have a lay-over in Toronto on my way back from a conference in Europe so I could participate in a container packing. Unfortunately, the packing was postponed.

I prefer to read things related to Cuba directly in the Cuba section of Debbie’s instead of having threads scurried away in a section where I might never see them. In the same vein, perhaps my thread about Cuba sending health professionals to Sierra Leone to assist in the Ebola crisis wasn’t exactly travel related, but I considered that it might be interesting to some vacationers about issues that Cuba in involved in. Perhaps that was wrong.

Let’s all take a chill pill or pour a Santiago Añejo or a mint tea.

YVRckPlease accept my sincere apology if you believe I was being rude or snotty to you. Perhaps I misjudged your comment about the car and therefore I may have been a bit harsh. Still don’t see why SOME folks think it’s wrong to make a post about something so good once in a blue moon but endorse all the nonsense posts about absolutely nothing. lolIn the future I shall ignore all posts that i can’t say something good about and perhaps I will elevate to a loftier position.

Apology accepted Lenny. I know you are passionate about DCF. It’s an excellent cause and one I support too.

I never miss a forum post simply because I go straight to the bottom of the homepage and click on "recent posts". From there I can sift through it all- good, bad or downright ugly.

A while back monctonguy made a valid point about people not wanting to read unrelated threads when they are doing a search. Some members simply want Cuba travel info; nothing more, nothing less. I don’t always agree with him but I did think his point had some merit.

Since we already have an off topic and Help the Cuban People section, it just made more sense to me that this thread should be in that particular place. If it gets moved after the weekend, it’s all good! Anyone wanting to help Cubans when they visit can get lots of valuable info from this sub-section. We can refer newbies there if they ask rather than "beat them over the head"or reprimand them for asking which is what happens in another forum.

It’s all about fairness and equality for ALL members. This is what sets Debbie’s forums apart from, and places it above many other Cuba forums. Let’s keep it that way!

I’ll (as usual) play Devil’s Advocate and suggest that this thread and others like it should ALL stay on this forum.In fact, "Help The Cuban People" and any other related Cuban forums should (in my opinion) be deleted permanently and ALL Cuban discussion – no matter what the subject – should be kept in one place, right here.This forum is already in dire straights and struggling… there is no need whatsoever to dilute its contact even further by spreading out Cuban contributions to obscure sub-forums. In my opinion that makes zero sense.My dos centavos…Cheers,
