Overall, The Aparthotel Roma II is a great place to stay. The Hotel is really a bargain and the staff was very helpful and polite. If not for a few situations, this hotel can easily receive 4 flowers. I reserved a studio for 45 USD per night from May 7 – May 20. When I arrived, the studio was nice and clean, a/c was working, refrigerator was working, and sattelite TV. The bed was really comfortable but I thought the pillows were lacking and cheap. My first situation was connection to the Wifi. I went downstairs and received the code but it did not work in my room. Come to find out, due to the location of my room, the signal was to weak even though there was a router right outside my door but there was a solution; there was a LAN connection in the room so problem solved. The hotel manager offered to move me to another room so I can connect to the Wifi but I declined; I like that she offered to move me. If I wanted to use the Wifi, I had to go to the lobby area on my floor. My next situation was the power. The power was constant throughout my stay except for the last two days. Two nights in a row, I came back to the room and there was no power except for the a/c..thank God. So for my last two mornings, the lights would flicker on and off for one or two hours; sometimes constant for one minute or ten seconds. I was told by the front desk the room I was in did not have a generator so my room was the only one with this problem. Overall the hotel is great and the staff is nice and was helpful with every question I had. The problems with the intermitent Wifia and power really dragged the score down.
The hotel entrance is steps away from Calle El Conde and walking distance to bars and restaurants in the Colonial Zone. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that decides to stay in Santo Domingo. If you do and you are put in RM. 106 ask if the electrical problem has been solved.
