	We love this area and just got back. If you stay in San Jose del Cabo there is a Mega Mart there that will most likely fulfill all your ‘needs’.

	Countdown begins, cannot wait to hit Dreams. I have written ahead to ask for a higher floor near the adult pool (we are big fans of silence, although ocean music is always acceptable!). I will write a detailed review, as I have seen on other sites (Blip Ad Wiser, cough cough) that the reviews vary wildly, esp with the food. Stay tuned for my review!

Back from Dreams, which was a solid four-star in my opinion. Beautiful layout, great rooms, excellent staff, lots of activities for kids (bungee jumping, face painting, etc). We had asked for double beds on a high floor, but they gave us a king, so we were switched to a very convenient room overlooking the pool and close to everything. Food was good, esp the room service food (that’s the true test), and bar service had a wide selection of tequilas, a priority for me! Jose Cuervo Tradicional (the good one, not the Especial), Herradura Blanco, Hornitos, Don Julio. They also had a tequila tasting seminar which was good.We went Whale Watching with Cabo Dolphins for 85 USD and it was amazing – el Arco de Cabo, sea lions, dolphins, rock formations, and finally we found a whale who breached and blew spouts – just like on National Geographic! The whale watcher was Beth, a woman from ……….Wales! and she is unbelievably knowledgeable and bilingual in Spanish. Her enthusiasm for whales and marine life was palpable and really made this one of the highlights of the trip. Highly recommended. When in Cabo, go to the Dolphinarium and buy your tickets there. (It’s on the Marina and looks like a big cement block).

But did you have fun and did you enjoy Cabo? In other words, would you go back and would you recommend this area?

I did have fun and I did enjoy Cabo; and I would go back and recommend this area, except I am from Toronto and it’s a long way from home. I think I will stick with the Mayan Riviera for now, as I get antsy if a flight is longer than 3.5 hours. For folks on the West Coast, I think it’s a great location – Dreams is right between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas so you can easily get to either town, and they have a lot of adventures and golf in the area. Very civilized and very safe (although it goes without saying no dark alleys while drunk at 2 am!). A really wonderful setting, the blue Sea of Cortez/the Pacific, you are right on the edge of the green desert, and great mountains. If you golf, there are a lot of amazing courses designed by Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, etc.

Hi eloisegirl, How would you compare the weather in Los Cabos versus Mayan Riviera for the same time of year?Did you get a direct flight from Toronto to LosCabos? if so, with which carrier?

As I mentioned, we love the area and so glad you enjoyed it as well, E-girl. We did take a tour of some of the golf courses there – a bit out of our price range – but they are beautiful. There’s lots to do there, as you mentined.The weather is dryer than the Mayan Riviera – Cabo is more deserty. The natural landscape and scenery are beautiful and, as well, the beach is beautiful with golden sand but can be ‘dangerous’ to swim in but there are areas of the beaches where one can swim and play in the waves. We were in SJD in May and had no problem playing in the water and the waves.

It’s a nice change from the MR.

Our flight was not direct – we went Westjet, left Toronto at 6 pm, arrived in Calgary at their 8 pm (but four hours in the plane), then we had a thirteen hour layover, from Calgary to San Jose airport. That was a four hour flight as well. Brutal, but our fault for misreading 13 hours as 3 hours. On the way home, we flew to Vancouver and from YVR to Toronto. I must say, YVR and YYC are very nice airports that are clean and easily navigated, with very helpful staff and security. Completely pleasant experience in those Canadian airports, esp with customs!Apparently our weather at Christmas was at least ten degrees cooler than it should have been, but we only had one day where we needed jackets. The Mayan has always been humid and hot in my experience.

With regard to Dreams, you cannot swim in the water, although there are some beaches nearby where it is safer. I keep a respectful distance from riptides! But if you are ever caught in a riptide, do not swim toward shore directly, swim parallel to the shore because even though it seems counterintuitive, it will actually save your life; within 40-80 feet, you will be free of the pull and can then go to shore. Thanks, 60 Minutes!!!

We’re off to Secrets Maroma in two weeks but I’ve been keeping an eye on the newly Secrets resort in Los Cabos.
