The villas were spacious, clean with some charming tropical touches and an island feel to them. We felt so much at home in our little villa which had absolutely all the necessities. We would usually have breakfast after my husband went fishing (more about this later) and then we’d head off for the day, returning in the late afternoon in time for island cocktails. Some evenings we would eat out at some terrific restaurants and others would be spent grilling by the pool where there’s a great big barbecue. The location of the villas is a little off the beaten path but still for us, that was perfect and just what we wanted. You do need a car but it’s a short drive (5 to 10 minutes) to the grocery store, restaurants, shopping and the beaches. There are longer drives to more remote areas of the island, and we recommend you explore all of them. The villas are equipped with beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella and cooler so we’d pack up a lunch and cold drinks and make daily trips to all the great spots Marta told us about. We really enjoy the solitude of some of Provo’s beautiful beaches, and there are many very close to the villas. Sadly as the island gets busier, these beaches will also get busy. Of course you can choose from the more touristy beaches of Grace Bay or ask Marta & Barry. They are always more than happy to share all their special hidden beaches – and they truly are tucked away and hard to find if you are not a local. Whatever you want to do, check with Marta and Barry first because they know the island so well and can direct you and make suggestions for booking excursions or trips. We have never rented or stayed at a villa with such wonderful and special hosts. We were made to feel welcome and special. Marta always put fresh flowers in our villa and we had many happy laughter filled conversations. Barry would tell us so many funny island stories! Barry and Marta’s willingness to share local information was amazing! Anything we needed, they were there to help. As for fishing, my husband is an avid flyfisherman. The villas sit beside Flamingo Lake so every morning he would literally walk out the front door and chase bonefish to his heart’s content. Since I don’t fish this was perfect! I could watch him from my window or sit by the pool reading my book. By the way, the villas have a great assortment of books. Marta even has a collection of local island books including birds, flowers and history. Local guides are available and Marta can arrange this for you. We were so sad to go after our two week stay. It felt like we were leaving family. That’s the uniqueness of this small piece of paradise. We definitely will return and I can’t wait!
