Historically, Isla Mujeres is a fishing village and nowadays discovered by tourists but still retains its charm and tranquil atmosphere. Personally I love to stroll the streets in the evening to see families gathered together in Caribbean styled homes, tucked between stores and restaurants, mending their fishing nets and relaxing.

What to do

Besides this, Isla Mujeres offers many activities to fill the days. Scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing, visit the Turtle Farm. There are art galleries to visit, workshops to attend, massages to have, shops to browse through, tours to nearby wonders like Isla Contoy or Holbox and the beautiful white sand beaches to enjoy.

What to eat

There are many wonderful restaurants on Isla Mujeres and if you are a seafood lover you will be in heaven, the fish is as fresh as it gets! You’ll find everything from traditional Mexican and Yucatan cuisine to Mediterranean, Italian, Asian, French and of course American. There is something for everyone on Isla Mujeres

How to get there

For transportation from Cancun International Airport you can take a shared airport van called Colectivo or a private taxi to Puerto Juárez which is about 15 minutes north of downtown Cancun. There are two express ferry services that can bring you to Isla Mujeres Gran Puerto Cancun (The Ultramar) and the Magana Ferries at Puerto Juárez. The Express boats to Isla Mujeres leave every half hour and the crossing takes 15 to 20 minutes. By bus: ADO runs a bus service from the airport to downtown Cancun. From the Cancun downtown bus station you can take a taxi to the ferry or if you are really feeling adventurous catch the Ruta 13 bus that will drop you off at Puerto Juárez where the ferrie will depart to Isla Mujeres.

How to get around

After you get off the boat you can take a taxi, walk or take one of the bici-taxi’s to drop you off at your hotel.

Once on location in your hotel, just rent a bike, moped or golf cart to explore the entire island
