No bonus travel points to Cuba through TD after Nov 1,2014 | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

It looks like after Nov 1, 2014 you will no longer be able to book trips to Cuba through TD Canada Travel Rewards period. Up until the new rules take place you can/could book trips to Cuba by calling the travel rewards call centre and still get your 9 travel rewards points using your travel rewards visa card. It looks like now you can only get a maximum 3 points for travel arrangements to Cuba if you use your card to book through another agency. You can still redeem points within 90 days but it sucks that you lose your bonus points.TD Expedia claims they can book alternative cultural and sunny travel arrangements comparable to Cuba!!!! REALLY??????? Maybe they will build a Cuba replica in Las Vegas or perhaps LEGOLAND is building a Cuba model? Here is a cut and paste from their new FAQ :A: Travel to Cuba cannot be booked through Expedia For TD and will not earn extra TD Points. However, Cardholders can book travel to Cuba through any other travel provider and redeem TD Points to pay for these Book Any Way travel arrangements. To learn more about Book Any Way,

So it looks like many of us who is using TD travel rewards/points will be booking through different agencies and redeem points through TD program. Before when I checked deals for Cuba other agencies were giving me better price than TD rewards anyway so I stopped checking them out. CuGeorge could you get better price through TD travel rewards comparing with other travel agencies?

If I found a better price than their web site they would price match over the phone and still give me the bonus points. I would shop around online and then call them with my best price found . Trust me I shop around . The difference between getting the bonus points or not would be about $25 to $50 for me depending on the value of the vacation being booked and I could redeem points on the spot.

When Expedia took over you could never book Cuba online anyways so I would always call them for Cuba vacations.

I always book via Trip Central. They give the same deals as everyone else plus I get to use my airmile travel certificates. Every 950 miles is = $100 certificate. You pay the posted price for your trip then indicate to the agent @ TC that you are going to redeem whatever amount you want(up to $400 pp. This appears on your invoice from them. You order up the travel certificates from airmiles then mail them to Trip Central then a cheque comes back to you. Would be great if they had Trip Central signed on as one of their new "cash rewards" instead of "dream rewards" then you could just do it at the time of booking. No matter it’s all good. I just received my $800 worth of certificates for my upcoming trip in November and will send them to Trip Central later today. Most time I actually have the cheque before I leave. I have found that this is the only way that collecting airmiles works for me. Just straight up cash.

I think with RBC rewards you can’t book Cuba either. Could be wrong.

I used AirMiles once to reduce the price of a package to Cuba, but mostly I don’t use them for travel. So far, I have bought two cameras and a set of luggage with AirMiles, so they work for me that way.
The credit towards buying vacations with the TD Travel Card is 10,000 points would equal $50 travel dollars. You would get 3 points for every dollar spent on your card but 9 points if you booked through Expedia TD online but because you couldn’t do Cuba online they would honour the 9 points by phone for Cuba. An easy math example would be book two $600 vacations and you would get $18 travel rewards if you booked through your own travel source or $54 if you booked through TD Travel Rewards for Cuba using your Travel credit card.I have looked into converting TD Travel points for cameras etc. but you get way more bang for your buck applying the credit towards travel . An example might be a camera for about 150,000 points (they don’t equate it to dollars) in travel dollars it would equate to $750, the camera would probably only be worth about $400 or much less on the open market. For movie passes and gift cards the buy out is pretty good and usually at par with the travel dollars.

Ok back to work now. I am still waiting for a fantastic no single supplement trip to Santa Lucia to jump out at me. I would like to leave this Tuesday. If not I will wait it out until one does. Sigh! Oh well only 7 weeks until RPT.

I always use Air Miles to fly to Toronto on my way South in the winter – it used to be 950 miles return (went up with their new pricing model) and cost me $149. in taxes, etc. The cost of a return ticket with Jazz (our only option from North Bay) is close to $600.00! For me, it is the best way to redeem my points. Last year I flew twice and barely made a dent in my points.
