After staying at all-inclusive resorts for the last 4 or 6 vacations I was a little worried about staying at a condo-style villa, but from the moment that we arrived I fell in love with Park Avenue Hotel / Villas. As soon as you arrive you are greeted by the owners and staff and given a tour of the hotel. Ralph and Renda Hewitt, the owners, make you feel so comfortable and you feel like you are staying at their home. The hotel is small and has a very nice courtyard pool in the center, but the best spot is on the second floor balcony where you can look down on the beach, and in the evening you can watch the most beautiful sunset. Any type of restaurant that you might want is easily a block or two down the street.
San Juan del Sur is a very casual little surf/fishing village type of town. Not intended for the dress-ups.
Arrival: Arrived in Managua, Nicaragua and had a private minivan and driver take us to San Juan del Sur — about a 1 1/2 hour drive.
Rooms:
The rooms were very adequate. Each villa has a small kitchen and refigerator, air conditioned — but not really necessary at the time that we were there.
Restaurants and Bars:
The hotel does not have a bar or restaurant but restaurants are very plentiful and reasonably priced just a few blocks away. Markets are available to stock up on beer and sodas and snacks for the room.
Beach/Pools/Grounds:
A very nice intimate courtyard pool is available.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Most daytime activities are just a block away along the beach road. One of the nicest ways to end the day is to sit on the veranda with a rum & coke and watch the sunset over the beautiful harbor.
Other Comments:
This was a very memorable vacation. My wife and I plan on vacationing here again.
