Receipt for booking | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Hi, We booked our trip to Cuba for my wedding in april 2008 and my TA say that Signature will not provide a receipt… She says that the transaction on the credit card shoud serve as a receipt… How does it work with your TA? We are a group of 34 and some guest really want a receipt….. I don’t know what to do….

Come to think of this, I don’t ever think I have recieved a receipt for any of the trips we have taken. However, we always book with a credit card so I guess this is proof you purchased.

Hi, I do know that if someone in your group gets sick and has to cancel, he or she must have all receipts to get the money back from cancellation insurance. One person in our group had to get a receipt after the fact. Really, as a business person your TA should provide you with a receipt if you ask for one. Best,

L

My TA said that the credit card transaction was proof of purchased but it doesn’t say anything… It does’nt say the dates of the trip or anything… I don’t consider that a receipt… We paid the full amount in november and the trip is only in April…. It could have been for a trip in February and no one would know the difference… I guess we have to put all faith in our TA, but it’s stressing anyways… Especially when you have 34 guest bugging you for a receipt… Librajaco, Do you think a letter from the agency would be ok or if the receipt really have to come from (exemple) Signature Vacations?

We paid the full amount in november and the trip is only in April…. Cubagirl, I find it most bizarre that your TA had you pay in full back in November. That far in advance of a trip, TA’s only take a $250 per person deposit with the balance of payment due between 30-45 days before departure depending on the wholesaler.I’ve NEVER had a problem getting a receipt and usually get one without even having to ask. It’s all part of the documentation I receive. By chance is some of your documentation available from the wholesaler’s website? For example Sunwing does everything by e-ticketing and YOU have to download your stuff from their website.

Something just doesn’t seem right. I’m wondering if your TA only paid the per person deposit to the wholesaler when you booked and the agency has the rest of the money in their agency bank account (making interest on the money, that you are not!).

Hi YVRck & Cubagirl, Regarding paying further ahead than 30-45 days, it does happen. We leave late January but had to pay in full in September. We booked at the end of July and paid our $250pp deposit and were told that we would have to pay in full earlier than normal due to the deal we got. Yes, I agree we normally pay 30-45 days ahead but, since it happened to us, I’m sure there is a valid reason why cubagirl had to pay earlier. As for a receipt, once your trip was confirmed, you should have received, by email (most likely) a confirmation notification showing your booking number and all the information pertinent to your trip (resort, room type, departure/return dates, full cost of package, etc). If you did not receive this notification (receipt) you need to get onto your TA.steffiej

The full amount did go on my credit card so I know that the agency isn’t making interest over my money… Signature Vacations took the money and not the agency. So i’m safe with that. And like Steffij said, we had to pay early because we got an early booking rate. When we paid our deposit in July, my TA gave us some kind of receipt saying the destination, the dates, the balance…. So I guess that could serve as a receipt. She said that if I really wanted a final receipt, she could write another letter like the first one but this time saying the full amount was paid…. It just won’t be an official receipt…. What do you guys think of that?

You should have received something similar and you will receive a final (similar) summary with your tickets. This is all you are going to get in way of a receipt but it is, in fact, a receipt. Hope this helps set your mind at rest and, if you didn’t receive something like this get onto your TA.(I did receive another receipt after I paid in full but that’s on my emails at home so you’ll have to make do with this summary as a sample ;))steffiej
