Review of Emotions Playa Dorada – Dominican Republic – Debbie's Carribean Reviews Forums

We arrived March 30 and stayed through April 6. The resort has been recently renovated. There was very little construction going on during our week there (aside from some painting.) The room in the adult building (#13) was great. It had a king bed, flat screen tv hanging on the wall, and a fridge. We had “special” towels to use at the adult pool which was between the adult only buildings. These towels were reddish and the towel cards get you blue towels.

The pool areas were very open. Very few palm trees to block the sun. The pools (besides the adult pool and the member pool) are all located in the main courtyard. One pool has a pool bar and a swim up bar which not many ever used. Service at the bars was very good. Ysabel and Manfred did an outstanding job of keeping the drinks flowing. There were loungers at the pool at all times during the day. The activity staff works at it but aren’t pushy about including you in the “fun”. They are near the pool with the bar.

The restaurants were very good. The main buffet is smaller than we have had in the past but provided plenty of variety. We had no complaints. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There was always someone grilling a couple different kinds of seafood, and on many days there was a spaghetti bar with different pasta and sauces to choose from. The Dominican restaurant was very good. We had the beef and chicken as our two main entrees. In case you have never done an a la carte restaurant, you are generally offered an appetizer hot and cold, the main dish, and a dessert. They don’t really tell you how to order, so if you don’t order one they simply don’t bring that part. The Mexican restaurant and the Italian restaurants were also very good. We had no food complaints. Only at the Mexican restaurant did we have a wait of more than 2 or 3 minutes but both are smaller rooms so it could be a wait. There is a beach bar/grill which provides a smaller selection for lunch and early dinner. It generally has hamburgers and hotdogs with pork slices and a fish plus french fries and vegetables. The setting is great as you eat overlooking the beach and beautiful ocean.

The drinks are not watered down or light. If you order a drink they pour at least a shot in!! The Milwaukee beer bar has beer that you can purchase aside from Presidente. The draft Presidente is part of the all inclusive but other bottled beer has to be purchased. In the week we were there, I bet I didn’t see 20 people total in it. Maybe people didn’t know that you could still get use out of it with the all inclusive band. The only complaint I guess would be that there is no bar other than the pool side bar in the evening. I say complaint but it really wasn’t for us.

The resort is on the smaller side, and all the buildings can be accessed fairly quickly. We loved it. I had emailed a couple times requesting information on upgrading to the adult building as we were going for our 25th anniversary, but I never received a response from them. I simply wanted to know what the upgrade fee was etc. Lo and behold, when we arrived our room was IN the adult only building (and at no extra charge!!)

We just returned home yesterday. We have been to Punta Cana twice and Cancun 11 times. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend it. If you have questions then please ask!!! I am a retired teacher so no questions are dumb questions. I will help you as much as I can.

PS- the finger printing process at POP, took my wife and I less than 2 minutes. Upon arrival, we were in and out of the airport in a matter of minutes!!!
