Arrival October 2006: Arrival was fine, no problems. Van was waiting for us to take us to the resort. Typical Caribbean drive (winding roads, bumpy.)
Rooms:
We stayed in the Frangipani villa, which is the best villa because it is the most private. The pool is large, kidney shaped (much larger than we expected for a plunge pool). The room is furnished in Caribbean style (brightly coloured bedspreads and wood slat blinds, dark bamboo/ teak furniture etc. "Open air" villa with screened windows and door but no insect problems; bed has a mosquito net which adds to the ambience! The outdoor shower was idyllic- when else in your life can you wash your hair and look at this amazing scenery!?
Restaurants and Bars:
The restaurant has delicious fare for all meals, particularly dinner. I would say lunch was the weakest point of the day. We had the most expensive ham sandwich I’ve ever eaten and it wasn’t THAT great! For dinner they have great fresh fish dishes and we were always pleased with the meals. Breakfast featured a delicious basket of freshly baked croissants and little muffins. When we went they did not have a meal plan, so it is a bit of a hassle to sign for all the food and be "conscious" of the prices, but since our visit they have implemented a meal plan.
Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Beach was not easily accessible from the villas. If anything, it was a steep walk down a couple hundred stairs. We did not attempt this but we enjoyed the incredible sunsets from our plunge pool overlooking Petit Piton and the ocean.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We went to the fish fry on Friday night, but it was very rainy so I think it dampered the party. We walked into town one day and poked around- a quiet fishing village so not really much to do/ see. We took the shuttle to the beach at Jalousie one day– imported white sand! Decent snorkelling. We didn’t go on other tours- our objective was to relax and enjoy our honeymoon!
Other Comments:
Since visiting Stonefield we have gone back to our usual all-inclusives at places like Sandals, but we always talk about Stonefield and how nothing else seems to measure up in terms of seclusion, privacy, and relaxation with your own plunge pool overlooking the ocean. It was a wonderful honeymoon and we would refer friends and family to Stonefield.
