Hmmm….. this story from Canoe, the Sun’s news service leaves me asking a lot of questions without any answers.
Thoughts anyone???

A violent robbery at a Cuban resort ended Paul Sampalean’s dream vacation before it even started.

There’s always more to these stories. But that stitching job is a crime in itself.

I don’t believe a word.

Not even "Veradero" or "Air Transit" ?

A new version has just been linked over on Trip Advisor:

According to him, all he remembers is waiting in the hotel for his lost luggage to be delivered by his airline on Sept 2., the day he landed, before waking up in a Cuban hospital.

“I was just hanging around the lobby, hoping my stuff shows up so I could take a shower and change,” the 33-year-old said. “Next thing you know, I woke up in the hospital the next day, not knowing where I was.”

Expect to see a GoFundMe page any time now.

It puzzles me why any locals would go to all that trouble when there are so many much easier ways to get money out of dumb tourists that take waaay less effort than beating them up.

Don’t buy his story
Now it’s changed .

I think a more accurate account would be he was hammered and fell down and cracked his pumpkin open. I can’t see this happening in any resorts lobby. I have to get tattoos to remember my trips. Looks like this guy will have a cool memento to remember his.

Sounds like that Athlete in the Olympics . ( what his name ?)
His BS account of getting beat in Rio .

Not to say that this man did not have a huge, scary , very expensive, thing happen , while in Cuba..But..I am wondering why the Sun is even reporting this little blog on page "whatever"..On September 11..The day of all days.. When the World pretty much stood still..

griz 2016-09-12 11:07:42 UTC #11

Are you saying that the entire world should stand still every September 11th for the remainder of time?

steveyyz 2016-09-12 16:22:40 UTC #12

Well I have to think the Sun does have an anti-Cuba agenda as every single story that puts Cuba into a negative light is featured and run big. What I really wonder is why the Sun, in keeping with good journalism didn’t have that letter the guy is holding translated into English and run in the paper? I’m sure many readers wanted to know exactly what that letter says!!!

Good journalism is what seems to be missing here.

Sun is owned by the Fox network or are they just "kissing" cousins? LOL

griz 2016-09-12 19:21:03 UTC #15

I doubt there was one person who saw that article and didn’t wonder about the content of that letter. And yet, no one on the Sun staff anticipated that incredibly obvious question.

iggy1 2016-09-14 18:41:11 UTC #16

Well I’m not the guillable type however, I’ve seen nothing nor read anything that this guy is not telling the truth. To compare him to the criminal at the Olympics is a huge stretch.
I’m not looking for a fight but come on, the injury and shoddy health care is obvious., or do some of you think he deserved that. Im quite frankly shocked that without any proof he is taking the blame like he got what he deserved. I’ll bet if it was a pretty young girl or an elderly person this wouldn’t be on here or there would be all kinds of sympathy

hfxjohn 2016-09-15 18:57:31 UTC #17

Iggy, what about the story reads true to you. Do you think that he was beaten up at the resort? Do you think that he was billed $3,000 for stitches to his head? He may believe that’s what happened to him, but many people reading the story question why.

cheersterry 2016-09-15 23:33:07 UTC #19

iggy1:

Nothing is obvious, Iggy. In my opinion the entire fiasco stinks to high heaven. There is zero proof he was attacked, there is zero proof how he was injured, there’s zero proof he even went to a real clinic. His sister didn’t even know the difference between CUC & CUP when she was interviewed.

I suspect the real headline here is: Canadian Tourist Got Blind Drunk! Acted Like An Idiot! Then Fell Down!

Who knows…

Cheers,
Terry
