Virus warning on ad on Debbies site | Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews Forums

Every time I go to Debbie’s site in the past few weeks, I am getting a warning from my virus software that an ad has been blocked due to a potential threat. The source reads in part:ticker.7910.org (then a long string on characters that are the exact address)Sorry but it does not allow me to cut & paste the address, otherwise I would. I do not get this on any other site so I doubt this is a Google ad. Someone should look into this as it could cause problems for people without virus software. Obviously, there is an ad contract somewhere with a less than genuine advertiser.I did some further research and got his info: 7910.org is a company in the Ukranie that makes & distributes avatars. This is what comes up from their site:

The large collection of free forum avatars from 7910 company. To make it even easier for you, we host these avatars for free so you don’t need to search for image host. To start, simply select avatar of your choice, copy the generated code and paste it on your favorite forum, blog, website or save it for use with instant messengers.

Probably someone is registered here who is using their avatar. It is a known source of problems with virus software. Why would any company offer free avatars unless there is something to gain from it? It is very easy to incorporate a virus into a photo or an avatar. I’d suggest that someone clean this up soon. I will be vacating Debbie’s if it doesn’t and the site is already pretty sparse as it is.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Dax. I go into Debbie’s from my home computer and my work one and have not had this warning pop up. This is an issue that Admin would have to deal with, if they can.
It would be interesting to hear whether anyone else has encountered this warning.

The warning stopped when I logged on late yesterday and today. My bookmark gives me all of the latest posts, so it could be that it’s an issue with a post that was showing on that page but has now been replaced with newer ones.

I doubt most anti-virus software would pick this up. I’ve been using Nod32 after trying most of the others. I will send you a PM if it shows up again. Hard to say whether it was an ad or an avatar. I did a quick search of the code for the offending line and did not see it but code is all greek to me.

Thanks, Dax, for checking it out as best you could. I’m glad it’s not still happening. Are you sure it’s not all geek to you?

Avast warns about suspicious Ticker sites too.
Bob from Canada was following up on a few for me, a while back. DR Forum.

I got another warning today when I checked in but reloaded page and it was OK. Turns out it was one of the banner ads at the top. Not worth worrying about now anyway.
