	has anybody been to varadero in January? what’s the temperature like then? is there a Cuban version of the farmers almanac to determine if it’s going to be a hot January?

I have been twice in January. Last year at the beginning of January and it was extremely cold for Cuba. At night it got down to 5degrees and the day was in the mid teens. Very usual for there.

The year before was there the last week and it was nice and hot during the day and cooled off at night that you would need a light sweater but it was not bad. Either way its better then here where we would have a lot of snow I would take sun, sand and somewhat warm temperatures over the snow and cold any day.

Not sure about the almanac, but last year was defn a colder year for them in Cuba, and throughout alot of the Caribbean actually.Any of the weather sites will give you the normal or avg temps for any month of the year and thats a pretty good guide, but it can fluctuate from year to year.

Last year people had jackets/sweaters on while at the beach in Jan…….

	I’ve been to Varadero, Cuba for the past two years on the last week of January. I did NOT have to wear a jacket on the beach. In the evening it did get a little cooler but still wore a shirt and shorts. I think it got down to 17 Celsius. Which definitely is not freezing cold.

	Don’t know if it was Varadero itself sorry, but it was one of the coldest winters Cuba ever had, dropping to 4 degrees in Havana on Jan 12th. So yeah, that would defn be jacket weather…… But last year was a weird one…all through the Caribbean….

I just had to bump this one up. Over the years, lots of folks have questioned weather in Cuba in January/February. I’ve always thought it a bit odd considering most times this question comes from Canadians and, hey, we do live in one of the coldest countries in the world, in the winter

Today is Oct.31st out on the west coast of Canada, hubby and I have just made up a couple of mojitos and are sitting on the patio. In the past hour we’ve had lovely, warm sun and, in an instant, rain and now it’s sunny again and we are back out there….him with his cigar

We are talking about our upcoming trip, in February and our main observation is….it’s going to be a heck of a lot warmer in Cuba, when we are on vacation, that what we are experiencing right now

In central Canada we woke up today to a couple of inches of snow!! Although it’s always nicer (or at least warmer) in Cuba than Ottawa in January We’ve had a couple of trips where the weather was a definite disappointment – sure it’s still better than Canada but we much prefer hot and dry to wet and cool. Strolling a deserted beach in long pants & a jacket for five days is not much fun. I’m not suggesting that we didn’t enjoy our holiday but warm and sunny is a big part of why we go south.

Unfortunately, cubavisitor, weather is totally out of the control of us mere mortals. No matter what time of year you decide to travel, weather is a crap shoot. In winter, you might encounter cooler than normal but, during the summer, odds are you’ll have to deal with rain, or

hurricanes. All we can do is make the best of what we are dealt. We’ve spent 10 weeks over the last 5 years in Cuba in Jan/Feb. The past two years have been the worst as far as cool weather. Even with that, I’ve calculated that we have averaged 80% good weather over our stays so I can be happy with that. Of course, going for two weeks makes a big difference if you do run into poor weather. This past Feb. our 1st week was really hit and miss with more misses than hits

but the second week made up for it. One thing I can say is that during those 10 weeks we have not experienced any rainy days. The few rain showers occurred during the night when we were sleeping.

	The plus side of it all is….if the weather is cold…the ocean water will be warm to swim in.
