Hey Everyone, I just got engaged in Dec 2006 and we were hoping to have a wedding in Mexico (mayan riviera) in Feb 2008.We went to the Grand Palladium Kantenah 2 years ago for a friends wedding and LOVED IT. We decided during that trip that when we were going to get married that was exactly how we wanted to do it. It was an amazing experience!Unfortunately there has been a lot of negative media lately about mexico which is making our family and friends reluctant to go there.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach this issue? Also does anyone have any alternative recommendations? Our next choice would probably be Cuba.Thanks!Jen

First Off…Congratulations on your engagement!!! ;DTo put your concerns into context and hopefully ease your mind…..Look at the number of violent incidents in Toronto in the past few weeks/months, in comparison to Mexico in the last several years. Yes there are sadly some very bad things that have happened in Mexico recently, but it almost seems more dangerous to walk the streets in our own Country…and do you feel unsafe at home?!? You should be fine in Mexico. I was there in November, wandered the streets (and back allyways), rode the city bus, at all times of the day and night and never felt unsafe.Good Luck and have fun planning!

This topic has been getting lots of attention. I think it comes down to you and your fiance and what you want. If you really really have your heart set on Mexico then go there. Keeping in mind off course if some of your family and friends are not comfortable with going, they may not. Can you have your wedding and live with not everyone being there? Personally, I know for a fact some of our family and friends would not go to Mexico therefore I would plan for it to be somewhere else. That’s just my opinon.

I would totally be all for your second choice of Cuba as I myself was married there almost a year ago and may be a little bias.

Hi! We’re trying to figure out where to have our wedding too. With more than a million Canadians traveling to Mexico each year, you would expect to hear some bad news. The U.S. though, issues a much stronger travel warning than Canada to its citizens traveling there. The problem is if you have a situation in Mexico, the police aren’t there to serve and protect. It is a corrupt system. You are guilty until proven innocent. If you read the latest Maclean’s they show the numbers as "13 Canadians murdered in Mexico since 2002." I just don’t want to bother with the debate as part of my wedding plans. We would like to say Mexico is an option, but the soon to be mother in law flatly said a big NO to going there. I can understand, that it would be at the back of her mind and she would never really feel rested. As for travelling to Mexico, I just did it! I would do it tomorrow. But to ask others to do the same, I couldn’t. Good luck. Best,

We got married in Mexico last May and 25 of us travelled from the UK and stayed at Ibersotar Paraiso Del Mar for 2 weeks.

Had not one ounce of trouble and haven’t heard of any trouble at all over here in the UK. I wouldn’t hesitate in going back and doing it all over again.
