What is it to makes you go back to Memories Flamenco Beach Resort in Cayo Coco? Do you like beach? Hotel staff? Hotel rooms?

I’ve never been to Cuba but this is the resort my wife and I booked for this coming January and we’re very excited. I’d very much appreciate any tips/advice/etc on the hotel if you would be so kind. Also any tours/excursions we should do too would be helpful. Unfortunately my wife gets very motion sick though so nothing that would require getting on a boat would work for us.

[/quote]Hey ald1. Any chance you could respond to my post here regarding this hotel? My wife and I will be at that hotel in just less than a month and are very excited and just looking for some tips and advice. Any help you could provide would be appreciated if you don’t mind.

We don’t really go outside the resort for excursions so can’t provide any advice there. Our advice would be to enjoy the hotel and what it has to offer (after all it is an all inclusive). If you want to get out there is a double decker bus that goes from resort to resort but honestly you will see the same as you are on an island and its pretty flat. sorry that is all I have to offer.

Hooty19: I can’t speak to Cayo Coco, but we have had 15 visits to Cayo Guillermo. As you know it’s off the mainland and you arrive using the causeway. Once you get to Flamenco take a day or two to get acclimated and to know the staff. When we go to a new place, we take our time and speak to fellow guests for advice. We are not fans of the organized excursions (always sitting on a bus and you get 30 minutes here, 1 hour lunch here, wait for late comers). So we ask the most trusted staff how to hire a reliable cab & English speaking driver. Make a deal after you have seen the car or van. Go to Moron and Ciego. Ciego is the capital of the province (I think!). On the journey, if you see something of interest the driver will stop as long as you want. Take your photos, etc. Continue on the journey. Make sure you pay for the driver’s lunch. It’s much better than any bus excursion and you get to see more of the so gorgeous scenery and architecture, not to mention ‘real’ Cubans. You might invite another couple to join you and share costs! I believe our fee was about 80 CUC and we were sharing, ended up paying 10 CUCs each; but what a day it was! And it was according to our wants, not the guide’s schedule. Of course we spent more than 10 CUCs each because all of us gave 5-10 CUC as a tip to the driver for such an amazing day. Of course, if you wanted a boat trip it would be more expensive and harder to vet the boat & ‘captain’ but since you won’t be doing that, it doesn’t matter; you have the beach.
PS: We left Guillermo at 7:30 AM and arrived back at 8:30 PM. And we weren’t tied up in dropping other guests off at various resorts. I remember that trip so vividly; never had such a great day in Cuba. Talk about value for money; you’re the boss and the driver does what & where you request. Hope you have read the reviews of the area and it would be nice if Lenny (bicycleman?) was to see this, he is truly an expert on Cayo Coco and can give you amazing tips.

I once took a two day trip from Cayo Gullermo to Trinidad doing exactly that. Hired a driver and car and it was one of our most memorable trips. He insisted we have lunch at his place in Moron and knew of a very good casa in Trinidad. Knew all the good spots to visit. It’s the best way to travel. Send me a pm and I’ll give you his name. He is well known in the area

Iggy1, would this driver be able to take on a group, say 10 people-ish for a half-day excursion? Thinking about Cayo Guillermo for next April…
So ald? Did you enjoy your trip? Planning on writing a review?

Not sure on 10 people but I’ll bet Lenny could set you up or you could contact my driver and ask him

Ok so yes it is possible to arrange a private excursion for 10 to ANYWHERE you would like to go for as long as you want to go for . Things to do around Flameco , my first thought of course would be a nice stroll along the beach to the east at low tide for some great nature sights along the beach and dunes , great beaches around the point and then a short detour along the well worn path and back to the beach where it’s only a short distance more to Playa Prohibida ( Lenny"s Bar & Grill ) NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT just a bit of free advise for a great hour and a half stroll . Should you require ANY info on the area feel free to message me or ask on the forum and I will mgladly share my knowledge of the area . Make sure to see my buddy Alexi at the beach bar and Yuri the porter at the front lobby they will set you straight .

Caribe Memories and Flamenco Memories which one is better in beach front and hotel room.
hooty19 2016-02-01 20:51:04 UTC #17
I spent a week at Memories in early January which was our first ever trip to Cuba. The resort seemed fine but issues like no fresh beach towels and the pathway lights being about 80% burned out so it was very dark walking around in the evenings was a bit of a nuisance. Now the fact that I got sick and basically spent my last 3 days in my hotel room and our credit card had multiple fraud charges on it really left me feeling like I wouldn’t want to be back to this resort.
