I heard that your names on your passport had to match that of your birth certicate exactly when getting married down there…My wedding had to get changed from April of next year to Nov 13, and we just noticed that our middle names are listed on our birth certifcate but not our passports…Does this matter..?? I have a month to try and get new passports done which sucks if we have to pay the fee again!!!! |

Have you sent the information to your resort and asked them? They should be able to tell you immediately. I can’t see there being a problem unless your first/last name is spelled differently. But better safe than sorry…I would check with your wedding coordinator. |

Yes unfortunately it does matter, I got screwed with this as well. My passport was still good for another 2 yrs but did not state my middle name as it does on the birth certificate so I had to get a new passport with my middle name on it. All I did was write a letter stating the reason why I needed a new passport b/c it had not yet expired along with all the usual crap for the application, no problems at all. |

IT MATTERS as I fell into the exact same senario. I hadn’t put my middle name on my passport and had to get a brand new one, even though my passport was only a year old. Sucked but hey, have to make sure everything is done properly. |

Belkis didn’t reject my information even though my passport doesn’t have my middle name. I’m not going to worry about it. She said it looked fine. |

| It may look fine to her but she’s not the official that will be marrying you? they will be looking at all your info as well to make sure its okay.If you’re not worried that’s your choice, but going all the way down there to get married and then not be able to wouldn’t sit well with me..librajaco

I know I wrote to Belkis and even emailed her the photocopy of the passports and birth certificates and asked if was a problem and she said the officiant only uses the name on the passport?…so I dont know…i then emailed her agin and asked are you sure, and she said yes, just first and last name matters….they go by passport, but now if so many people had problems maybe i should get it done anywaz?? |

For the people who said it did matter that they matched…did u hear this from your wedding cooridnator or what …who confirmed it for you and are you sure it mattered…did they actually specify…? |

| My weddng coordinator stated it should be all the same plus the Cuban Consulate stated that as well. They take photocopies of all your ID so they will have the birth certificate and passport to see.Personally I wasn’t about to chance spending the money as well as friends and family when I didn’t feel 100% positively sure. Yes it was an added $87 and pain of getting the passport done again but I felt more confident that everything was the same than any doubt.Its entirely up to you, if you feel comfortable knowing what Belkis has told you then go for it, if it works out then you can relay to upcoming brides its fine.

Well, really then I guess it’s already too late. ![]("http://images.proboards.com/v5/smiley/shocked.png") There is no way the Canadian government is going to re-issue my passport within the next six weeks. Aidan24, if you’re really worried please call or email the consulate directly. I think if you have enough i.d. on you, i.e. your birth certificate, your passport and your driver’s license they will accept you for who you say you are- even if your middle name isn’t on one piece of your documents. Has anyone ever heard of someone not being allowed to get married after heading all the way there because of a middle name? Cheers, Lisa |

| I agree with bluesunset, Belkis isn’t marrying you, the judge is and it’s Cuba, is it worth it at this point to take a chance? A passport cost $80, alot less then having people travel to your wedding only to find out there won’t be a wedding.
However, that being said, if your able to go without having it done and get married, good on you. Pass along the info and have other brides like me save paying the extra cost for nothing. |

Thanks…actually found out for sure by the notary who got back to me, lol..and the passport building down by our house…they only go by the name on the passport and travel card, first and last name have to match..other then that…no problems…Belkis even wanted to know where this info was posted about teh middle name because she actually got quite upset with me for still harrassing her on it, the birth certificate is not even used for the ceremony whatsoever, so to ensure canadian or whatever citizenship |

And to confirm all of this, my friend got married at the IV in April 2006 and her birth certificate stated her middle name and her passport didn’t… But she did get married with no problem! Cheers! |

I got married there after on Nov 13 without a problem…the passport and birth certificate DOES NOT need to match..they didnt even need our birth certificates, let alone ask for our middle names, …these forums are great with info, but sometimes people just assume and dont got the facts, I nearly went out and payed another 120 for passports when there was NO NEED whatsoever |

Well I was one of those suckers who actually did go out and change my passport to make sure all the documents matched. Talk about a p-off! If only there were one set of rules for everyone. Good to know for the furture brides though. |
